A barbecue (with vegetarian options!), candyfloss, inflatable toys for children, a DJ and numerous themed stalls - once again, the academic community of the University of Gdańsk came together for the UG May Day picnic. The informal atmosphere encouraged socialising, the weather was perfect, and the area in front of the UG Library was packed with students, university staff and local residents alike! As is tradition, the event was organised by the University of Gdańsk Centre for Student and Doctoral Activities.
Many people decided to bring their children to the May Day event, and they enjoyed the attractions prepared especially for them: bouncy castles, soap bubbles and a face-painting station. For the adults, there was a mini book fair featuring selected Tricity publishers (including FarU publishing houses), a quick quiz on neurodiversity and child development organised by the ‘Szyszunia’ Education and Therapy Village, and stands run by student research societies. Thanks to the mobile stall of the UG Shop, visitors could stock up on merchandise bearing the university logo, including the ever-popular seal mascots. Event attendees also had the chance to support charitable causes!
‘The UG May Day celebration once again proved its worth - the campus was filled with students, staff, residents of the Tricity and their children, who simply wanted to spend a lovely spring day together. As the Centre for Student and Doctoral Activities, we are particularly pleased that we managed to invite non-governmental organisations such as the Mam Marzenie Foundation and Animal Helper, as well as public institutions - including the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station - to collaborate; for us, this is proof that the May Day event truly connects the university with its surroundings,’ said Kacper Wiśniewski, Head of the Office for Student and Doctoral Support. ‘There was something for everyone on campus: an RPG zone organised by the Topory Association, inflatables, braided hair, face painting and games in the children’s area, free grilled sausages and vegetables, and an open-air cinema to round off the day. Events like this are meaningful precisely because they bring the whole community together - from the youngest members to university staff and local residents. We’d like to invite you to the next May Day celebration with the University of Gdańsk today, but before that takes place, we have one more major event ahead of us - the Young Science Congress, to which we also warmly invite you.'
