New comprehensive issue of the University Gazette

The new March issue of the University Gazette, which is almost a hundred pages long, will soon be available to readers. It contains not only a chronicle of the most important events of the past month at our University but also articles and interviews as well as a broad presentation of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Gdańsk.

Among the larger forms, an article about a list of 2% of scientists whose works are most frequently cited in the scientific literature, published by Stanford University, Elsevier publishing house and SciTech Strategies on the pages of PLOS Biology, is worth mentioning. Among the 726 scientists from Poland, there are as many as 14 researchers from the University of Gdańsk. What is important, as the editors of UG announce, we will be able to read interviews with them in future issues of the magazine.

The issue also contains an article on women in science. The report of the commission for the implementation of the policy of social responsibility of science on the situation of women at the UG shows that women constitute the majority of our scientific staff. The problem is analysed in detail by the author of the article Sylwia Dutkowska-Kafar, who presents, among others, the project entitled 'Modifying Institutions by Developing the Gender Equality Plans (2021-2023)', which will aim to promote women.

In the Science and Education section, we will read about new educational offers and the Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Tutoring at UG, as well as about grants and subsidies awarded to support the development of many scientific projects at the university.

The Social Affairs section contains an article about academic discrimination and mobbing as well as the tasks of the Ombudswoman for Equal Treatment and Anti-Lobbying.

As part of the presentation of the University's faculties, the March issue devotes its pages to a multifaceted presentation of the Faculty of Philology. Thus, we will learn a lot about modern humanities - according to our scientists and researchers. We will also learn about the faculty's plans for the future, revealed in a conversation with dr hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, prof UG, Dean of the Faculty of Philology.

In the Interviews section an interesting conversation about the European Maritime University (SEA-EU) with prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Bielawski, Vice-Rector for innovation and cooperation with the social and economic environment, was conducted by Maciej Goniszewski. It is also worthwhile to take a look at the conversation with prof. dr. hab. Grzegorz Węgrzyn, the chairman of the Council for Scientific Excellence, the head of the Department of Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Gdańsk, and with prof. dr. hab. Jerzy Zajadło from the Department of State Theory and Philosophy of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, the winner of the prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński competition for the best humanities book.

Quite a few pages of the March issue deal with memories and old photographs, going back to the beginnings of our university. This issue ends with the students and doctoral students section. You will soon be able to take a look inside.
