Nora Fingscheidt's widely acclaimed feature debut is a heartbreaking tale of a a nine-year-old girl and her desperate need for attention, love and tenderness.
The film has been recognized at many world festivals. It received the Silver Bear at the Berlin festival and it is the German candidate for the Academy Award.
The main protagonist of the film may be only nine years old but she is more experienced than her peers. She has been handled by institutions, which sooner or later expel her. Such cases as the innocent-looking Benni are called "system crashers" in the slang of social workers.
There is one goal behind the aggression, shouting and violence that characterize the girl's behavior. It is her desperate desire to return home and live alongside her beloved mother. However, the woman has considerable doubts, fearing that the wayward daughter will not let her shape her life anew. When methods fail to tame Benni's explosive character, unexpectedly a light appears at the end of the tunnel - Micha.
Will he manage to succeed where everyone else was driven to despair?
