Magda Klimek, a student at the Faculty of Management of the University of Gdańsk, was shortlisted for the 12th edition of the Student Nobel Prize 2021. The competition's online Final Gala was held on Sunday, May 23. The National Competition Commission, composed of 33 professors from Polish universities, selected 9 most talented students from among 86 finalists.
The competition was aimed at university students from all over Poland who stand out for their ambition, hard work and commitment.
Among them/the finalists, in the category of Economic Sciences, was Magda Klimek, a student of the Faculty of Management at the University of Gdańsk.
- 'Regardless of the final verdict, I feel a great distinction, but also a kind of pressure, because I am the only representative of the University of Gdańsk this year. Being nominated for the Student Nobel Prize is the culmination of the effort I have put into my work so far. It motivates me a lot and encourages me to further active participation in raising my competencies,' says Magda Klimek, a UG student.
Her achievements, which were recognised in the competition, include mainly numerous articles in scientific publications and participation in national scientific conferences.
- 'However, not only scientific achievements were taken into consideration. The criteria for awarding the Student Nobel Prize also include students' social activities. From my own experience, such activities include acting as the President of KNR Audytor, HR Vice-President at SF BCC, co-organising nationwide scientific competitions and events that spread the concept of entrepreneurship, e.g. Young Business Festival or Financial Intelligence. I'm happy to get involved in such projects and I always encourage others to do the same,' says Magda Klimek.
Magda Klimek studies finance and accounting at the Faculty of Management; she is currently in her fourth year. As she says, she had planned her choice of major and university several years before she started. In finance and accounting, she is most interested in areas thematically related to taxes, auditing and broadly defined cost accounting. She is eager to analyse amendments to regulations and methods of recognising selected economic events in accounting books. She intends to continue acquiring knowledge and developing her skills. In the nearest future, she would like to continue the process of gaining qualifications as a statutory auditor. She is also considering commencing third-level studies in economics and finance in the future.
The Student Nobel Prize is a cyclical competition organised by the Independent Students' Association, whose main objective is to honour students with outstanding achievements. It is divided into nine categories: Technical Sciences, Arts, Journalism and Literature, Natural Sciences and Energy, Physics and Astronomy, Medicine and Pharmacy, Social Sciences, Economic Sciences, Social Activity.
Implemented for 12 years, the project focuses on: promoting the development of science, literature and art, supporting the idea of voluntary work, making it easier for young, talented artists and scientists to develop their passions and interests. It is the only such scholarship programme created by a student organisation.
