We had no shortage of ideas for projects to make UG's facilities and outdoor areas more welcoming and environmentally friendly. A total of 58 projects were submitted to the first University of Gdańsk Academic Citizens' Budget, including 31 staff and 27 student projects.

The deadline for submitting projects was Thursday June 30. There were exactly 30 days to submit an application.

'We are delighted that the idea of ABO was met with such great interest. The number of submitted projects fills us with optimism - we hope that this is only the beginning of a civic initiative to improve the space in which we work and study,' - says Piotr Szpajer from the UG Promotion Office, coordinator of the first edition of the ABO UG. - 'There are a number of further activities ahead of us to enable voting on selected projects. Firstly, all of them will be subjected to substantive and technical assessment by a working team, which will assess whether they are feasible and whether the financial assumptions made in the project applications are appropriate. If changes need to be made to the projects, applicants will be notified.'

Strength in diversity

The projects are very diverse. Ideas include a solar bench, Plato's reading gazebo, an economic park, beach multisport pitches, an academic skatepark, the purchase of a Virtux Omni platform, board games for the UG Main Library, the creation of an anti-smog mural or a dendrological path at the UG Campus.

Schedule of ABO activities

By September 30, projects will be reviewed. On October 10, a list of all those accepted by the selection committee for voting will be published.

- 'The final list of projects to be voted on will be approved one week before the vote by the Competition Committee. Each project will have to obtain the opinion of the dean of the faculty or the director of the university-wide unit to which it relates beforehand,' - adds Piotr Szpajer.

Vote from October 17!

On October 17, voting for the projects will begin - in electronic form. It will last for one week - until October 24.

Employees will be able to vote for employee projects, and students and doctoral students for student projects. If, at the time of voting, someone has both employee and student status, they will be able to vote in both categories.

Please note that a maximum of three projects can be selected from the list when voting.

Announcement of results by November 4

The list of winning ideas will be announced by November 4. They will be included in the UG 2023 material and financial plan and implemented in the following year.
