Rector UG prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science for Internationalisation and Development dr hab. Aleksander Kubicki, prof. UG.
They will be the representatives of the University of Gdańsk in SEA-EU 2.0! On March 13, this year, the Rector of the UG, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski handed over nominations to new coordinators who will represent the university while implementing the six work packages of the next edition of the alliance.
- 'We think of SEA-EU as an integral part of the University of Gdańsk, which has become an element of our university's identity,' - started the meeting with the UG Rector, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. - 'Undoubtedly, today, under the acronym 2.0, the Seaside European University is absolutely extraordinary for us. It is an experience that helps us build an internationalised university and, above all, one that is open to entirely new challenges.'
As part of the SEA-EU 2.0 alliance, the nine member universities will implement six work packages. Each addresses a different sphere of academic life: administration, mobility, research, green and sustainable campus, relations with the socio-economic environment and communication.
Each alliance member appoints its' own teams to carry out these tasks. They include academics as well as administrative staff from universities. On 13 March this year, the University of Gdańsk appointed 25 coordinators to collaborate on work packages with the other eight universities.
In July 2022. The European Commission has allocated €14 million to the SEA-EU 2.0 initiative. This is almost three times more than the six universities from the first edition received in 2019-22. This means more joint initiatives, scientific projects and, above all, more mobility.
prof. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler
- 'Today we have 18 national universities that are in alliances,' - said Vice-Rector for International Cooperation dr hab. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, prof. UG, during the meeting. - 'Currently, there are 44 European universities, and by 2027 there are to be 60. Currently, they account for 10% of higher education, so it is a very elite group. By 2027, the European Commission wants to allocate €1 billion to this initiative.'
During the meeting, SEA-EU Project Manager Marlena Myzyk-Rutkowska and SEA-EU Office Manager Natalia Lubińska talked about the changes in the new edition of the alliance and the details of each work package.
Ahead of the coordinators are the first meetings with twinning teams established at other SEA-EU member universities and building the foundations for the next 4 years of cooperation.
