The University of Gdańsk at the 3rd Forum of Rectors of Poland and Uzbekistan

Samarkanda

Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski chaired discussion panels during the 3rd Forum of Rectors of Poland and Uzbekistan, which is taking place in Samarkand. The event is one of the most important academic initiatives strengthening cooperation between Europe and Central Asia. As announced by the Minister of Science and Higher Education, dr Marcin Kulasek, during the opening of the Forum, the next edition of the Forum will be held at the University of Gdańsk.

The Forum brings together ministers responsible for higher education, Rectors and representatives of the academic community from Poland, Uzbekistan and other countries in Europe and Asia.

‘The University of Gdańsk is actively participating in the Forum - I have the honour of chairing the opening session of the conference dedicated to the experiences of cooperation between universities in the European Union and Central Asia to date, and of moderating a panel on the role of higher education in shaping an ethical and inclusive socio-economic transformation,’ reports the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. ‘The meetings in Samarkand will undoubtedly result not only in lasting relationships and new academic initiatives but also in further strengthening cooperation between our ministries and universities.’

The University of Gdańsk is consistently developing cooperation with universities in Asia, as evidenced by the funding secured on 7 April this year under the NAWA Katamaran programme for the implementation of the project Joint Study Programme in Digital Law, AI and Cybersecurity Governance (UG-TSUL), conducted in cooperation with Tashkent State University of Law.

Representatives of universities and research institutions from, among others, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Slovakia and Denmark are taking part in the debates in Samarkand, which underscores the international significance of the event. During the Forum, the Polish and Uzbek ministers of science signed an academic cooperation agreement, opening up new prospects for the implementation of joint research and educational projects.

The event programme includes bilateral meetings between universities, networking sessions and participation in the international education fair ‘Study in Poland’. The next edition of the Forum will take place in Poland, at the University of Gdańsk.
