More work and relaxation areas within university buildings and in the outdoor spaces of the university campuses, the development of green spaces and the refurbishment of lecture theatres, as well as - for the first time! - sporting, cultural and social events creating spaces for the academic community to come together - we now know the projects submitted for the fifth edition of ACB UG.
Between 18 May and 15 June this year, members of the University of Gdańsk’s academic community submitted 23 projects: 18 in the ‘Infrastructure and Equipment’ category (12 submitted by staff and 6 by students) and 5 in the ‘Events and Recreation’ category (4 by staff and 1 by a student).
The full list of projects is available in the attachments below the text. A detailed description of each project is available in the ACB UG panel - access is available after logging into the Staff Portal or Student Portal and then selecting the ‘Academic Citizens' Budget’ tab, followed by the ‘Submitted Projects’ category.
It should be noted that the competition rules have undergone some changes this year. The distinction between staff and student projects has been removed; applicants therefore submitted their ideas into a single pool, without any division by target group. Instead, a division into two project categories has been introduced. In addition to infrastructure and equipment projects - covering investment or renovation schemes – as well as material projects involving the purchase of materials, equipment and fittings, this year saw the introduction, for the first time, of the opportunity to submit ideas under the newly created category ‘Events and Recreation’. This category could include cultural events (such as concerts, performances, exhibitions and picnics), sporting events, as well as social events and initiatives aimed at both students and PhD candidates, as well as staff at our university.
As in previous years, a total of 200,000 zł has been allocated for the 2026 edition of the ACB UG, broken down as follows: 150,000 for projects in the ‘Infrastructure and Equipment’ category and 50,000 for the ‘Events and Recreation’ category.
Voting on projects in both competitions will take place from 19 to 26 October, and the results will be announced in early November this year.
In the four editions held to date, 13 projects selected by our university’s academic community have been implemented on the university campuses in Gdańsk-Oliwa and Sopot. Four further ideas, which proved to be the best last year, are currently being prepared for implementation.
