The second volume of the series 'Uniwersytet Gdański - struktury, postacie, wydarzenia' edited by Dominik Bień has been published.

The stimulus for the creation of the collection was a competition for the memories of the Higher School of Pedagogy, the Higher School of Economics and the University of Gdańsk, as well as the conference 'The University of Gdańsk and its History' planned for March 2020. The submitted texts contain recollections and interviews with graduates and employees of the three universities and present individual units of the University of Gdańsk.

The first volume contains popular science articles, memoirs and interviews. The second volume contains scientific texts. It is intended that both volumes constitute the beginning of a cycle, and its subsequent parts will appear after conferences planned for the following years, whose leading theme is to be the University of Gdańsk.

In this monograph, the authors consider how the Centre for East Asian Studies at the University of Gdańsk became a precursor of oriental studies and Asian studies at the University of Gdańsk (Zbigniew Landowski), look at the process of shaping the information policy and image of the university (Beata Czechowska-Derkacz) or explore the history of the Faculty of Social Sciences (Tadeusz Dmochowski) and the Institute of Pedagogy (Romuald Grzybowski).

The authors of the texts are not only experienced researchers, representatives of the authorities of individual units but also, among others, young scientists, former students and employees. The open concept of the publication is to encourage representatives of various groups, regardless of their age or status in the academic hierarchy, to participate in the creation of subsequent volumes of the cycle, and the only requirement set for the authors is the presence of the University of Gdańsk on the pages of their texts.
