Summer course 'Ichthyology of the Sea'

In just a week's time the eighth edition of the summer course in ichthyology of the sea will begin, which is becoming increasingly popular with students and postgraduates of natural sciences.

The aim of the course at the Department of Oceanography and Geography, which like in previous years will be held at the prof. Krzysztof Skóra Marine Station of the Institute of Oceanography at the University of Gdańsk, is to prepare future specialists for sustainable management of environmental resources in marine areas and the proper conduct of environmental monitoring.

During the two-week workshop, students acquire a wealth of knowledge and practical skills related to field monitoring, the use of tools and techniques in research and commercial fishing, ichthyological analysis and documentary photography.

Classes will be conducted in the form of lectures and laboratory and field exercises, including field monitoring and ichthyological analysis, the use of tools and techniques in research and commercial fishing, photographic documentation in scientific research, principles of safety and work at sea and training cruises.

This year's edition of the course is carried out under the project of the Gdańsk University Development Foundation Friend of Baltic Nature - get to know, understand, protect from the funds of the Voivodship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk.
