The double success of AZS UG at the Futsal Polish Academic Championship Finals.

The celebration of futsal happened on 20-23 February 2020 in Poznań - Futsal Polish Academic Championship Finals for Men and Women took place. Both Male and Female University of Gdańsk Teams played spectacularly during the competition, bringing home the medals.

The female team, coached by Tomasz Aftański, finished third in general classification and second in university classification. This excellent result is a repeat  of two years before when AZS UG also won two medals, bronze (general classification) and silver (university classification).

Our team started the competition in Greater Poland with the draw against UMCS Lublin (1:1), then won the two following games at the group stage, against UEK Kraków (3:1) and SGGW Warszawa (1:0). Advancing  to the competition’s Final Four required beating the home team, UAM Poznań and our team accomplished that .

After defeating UAM Poznań (3:1) the advancement to the Final Four became a reality. In the Sunday semifinal game our team ended the regulation time with a tie score against the favorites, PWSZ Wałbrzych (1:1), but lost in the penalty shootout. AZS UG faced UWM Olsztyn in the third place match. The bronze medal in general classification and silver medal in university classification were at stake. Both teams were scoreless at the end of regulation play, but fortunately this time our team won the penalty shootout. It is a major success and great joy of AZS UG Futsal Ladies in Poznań!
