Prof. dr hab. Jerzy Limon received Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award

The 21st edition of Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award Ceremony took place on 25 February 2020 in Warsaw.

The Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award is granted to institutions or persons for outstanding achievements in the field of protection of the Polish cultural heritage in the following areas: museology, art conservation, archiving and libraries; international promotion and protection of the Polish cultural heritage; local government initiatives to protect the cultural heritage; individual and joint initiatives to collect and protect remains and monuments of the cultural heritage; popularization of the need to protect the cultural heritage in Poland and dissemination of methods to achieve this goal.

This year, prof. dr hab. Jerzy Limon received this prestigious award.

He was recognized for originating and establishing  Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, which corresponds to the first public theater from the beginning of  XVII century, existing for almost two hundred years in Gdansk. Professor Limon was also honored for creating place of living cultural heritage. Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre is the place where world-class concerts, happenings , exhibitions take place and while drawing from the past it creates a new dimension of art.

The Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award has been granted by the Kronenberg Foundation of Citi Handlowy Bank since 1999.  The award patron was the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of the Kronenberg Foundation Council, and an internationally recognized outstanding Polish humanist.

The award promotes and supports those who take action to protect Polish cultural heritage, both at home and abroad.
