'Why do people fight wars?' The 12th edition of Brain Days is ahead

'The brain before a switch - neurobiology of moral dilemmas', 'Grażyna and Janusz, or about the brain of a woman and a man', 'How to have sex in space?' - these are just a few sample topics of lectures that will be presented on March 14-20, 2022, during the 12th Edition of Brain Days in Tri-City.

This year, Brain Days, an annual event organised as part of World Brain Week by the Faculty of Biology of the University of Gdańsk, will be held in a hybrid formula.

'We have prepared over 50 lectures in an online formula, as well as over 50 workshops that will be held stationary at the Faculty of Biology of UG and in the Dom Zdrojowy Hevelianum in Brzeźno,' - says dr Wojciech Glac, prof. UG from the Neurobiology Unit of the Faculty of Biology UG, the organiser of the event. - 'Almost all lectures and workshops are designed in such a way that, thanks to the popular science formula, people of all ages can benefit from them and learn various interesting things about the brain. For adults, we dedicate lectures to topics that we find particularly important, for schoolchildren, in addition to lectures, we have prepared workshops, and for the youngest, there are several lectures and workshops in the programme. We also encourage everyone to participate in a city game on our campus.'

Lectures will be held mainly in a remote formula from Monday, March 14th to Sunday, March 20th, while workshops in a stationary formula, mainly on Friday, March 18th (at the Faculty of Biology UG) and Saturday, March 19th (at the Dom Zdrojowy in Brzeźno). For some workshops, reservations are required.

Programme of Brain Days 2022

The topics discussed during this year's Brain Days are diverse. Some of them will concern various issues close to our hearts, including current ones: 'Why people fight wars', 'Support each other - (not only) here and now!' or 'Conspiracy theories and the brain'. We will also discuss topics that are always relevant, such as 'Psychological determinants of health, or a few words about what to do so that we are not blown off the board', 'Healthy brain, sick brain - a fluid borderline' or 'The biological basis of sexual orientation and gender identity', dedicated to how to learn effectively, what to eat and what to do to have an efficient brain. We will also talk about addictions, stress, gaming, overexertion, digital hygiene, etc.

There will also be lighter topics - about sex in space, swearing in the brain, or the differences between men and women.

'The stationary workshops will be divided into workshops for small groups, with the necessity of prior telephone reservation, and open stand workshops. At the former it will be possible, for example, to enter the laboratories and see how neurobiologists work, as well as to experiment or dissect the nervous system. The stand workshops are aimed at experimenting on your own to see how the brain works,' adds dr Wojciech Glac.

This year's edition of Brain Days in the Tri-City is held in cooperation with the Hevelianum Science Centre. Partners of the action are Experyment Science Centre in Gdynia and scientific clubs from UG.
