As many as ten works from the Confucius Institute of the University of Gdańsk were awarded in the national photo competition Chinese Impressions organised by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Warsaw in cooperation with Confucius Institutes. The list of all Chinese Impressions winners is available here. On March 25th, dr Magdalena Łągiewska, Director of the Confucius Institute UG and Fan Xiaodong, Consul General of the PRC in Gdansk, presented the winners with prizes and congratulations. During the event, Chinese students who came to the University of Gdańsk to learn Polish presented their language skills.

More than fifteen years have passed since the first Confucius Institute was opened in Poland. Seven since the establishment of the UG Confucius Institute. Thanks to these organisations, among others, more Polish students are able to go on scholarships to the People's Republic of China. To highlight this cooperation between the two nations, the PRC Embassy in Warsaw, in conjunction with the Confucius Institute, organised a photographic competition entitled Chinese Impressions. Poles who visited China could submit their photos taken during their visit to the Middle Kingdom. On March 25, a ceremony was held at which prizes were awarded to the winners.

Dr Magdalena Łągiewska, Director of the Confucius Institute opened the event by welcoming all the guests in English and Chinese. Together with Fan Xiaodong, General Consul of the PRC in Gdańsk, she handed over the prizes and congratulated the competition winners.

'First of all, I would like to thank you very much for your active participation in the photo competition "Chinese Impressions". The subjective perspective visible in your photographs made it possible to reflect in a unique way China's development achievements, natural landscapes, customs and friendly cooperation between China and Poland,' - said Consul Fan Xiaodong.

Another highlight of the programme was presentations by students from Harbin. Under the direction of the Director of the Academic Centre for Polish Language and Culture of the University of Gdańsk, dr Irena Chawrilska, the students performed an artistic programme entitled 'My first impressions of Poland'. - 'Harbin is located in the north-eastern part of China. It is the capital of Heilongjiang province,' - said a Chinese student who introduced himself as Filip. He was followed by other Harbiners with assumed Polish names: Jagna, Jan and Zofia. Their speeches focused on their impressions of Gdańsk and their reasons for learning Polish.

'Our ceremony today is coming to an end. I am very happy that we could meet talents from both sides. First, the Poles who took fantastic pictures in China and, on the other hand, wonderful students from China who are learning Polish at the University of Gdańsk. I am impressed by your language talent and skills. If you are here only since October, I wish our Sinology students the same progress in learning Chinese,' - concluded dr Magdalena Łągiewska.
