Exchange of observations and opinions on the organisation of lectures after the COVID-19 pandemic and a summary of the experience of remote working - were the main topics of the meeting of representatives of language teaching centres at universities in Poland. The discussion was held as part of the 4th Forum of University Foreign Language Teaching Centres.
The meeting took place on March 25, 2022, on the MS Teams platform. It was initiated by mgr Alina Swebocka, Director of the Foreign Languages Centre UG, who once again created a platform for mutual exchange of good teaching, organisational and managerial practices.
The Forum brought together representatives - managers, directors and persons responsible for organisation and quality of education - from thirteen universities: Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Warsaw, University of Silesia in Katowice, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Jagiellonian University in Cracow, University of Wrocław, University of Rzeszów, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and University of Gdańsk.
The discussion covered the following thematic areas: organisation of classes after the COVID-19 pandemic, benefits from the experience of remote working, development of language skills, pro-quality activities and good practices, innovation in foreign language teaching - not only about technology, the profile of an academic foreign language teacher - what is 'academicism' in the teaching profession? The professional path of lecturers and language policy at Polish universities were also discussed.
The main topic of the meeting was an exchange of observations and opinions on the organisation of language teaching after the COVID-19 pandemic and a summary of the remote working experience. Subsequently, FLC's cooperation with the economic sector was discussed, as well as workshops with employers for UG students organised as part of this cooperation. The issue of standardisation of final exams was also raised by presenting and discussing its various stages.
In the next part of the meeting, the participants shared their experiences concerning the current organisation of foreign language courses at their respective universities.
The next meeting within the continuation of the Forum of University Language Teaching Centres is planned for May 27, 2022.
