'ACTIVE UNIVERSITY' - summer play centre FOR CHILDREN

As part of the 'Active Univeristy' course, seventeen children of employees of the University of Gdańsk took part in a five-day artistic and recreational summer play centre organised by the UG Centre for Physical Education and Sport and the UG Academic Sports Club.

Children love to acquire new information and learn about the world through experience, touch, contact with nature and play. Their activation is crucial for their proper development. The summer play did not only focus on physical activity, but also on deepening the artistic skills of the charges. For five days, numerous activities were organised on and off the UG campus. The children painted pictures on canvas using a variety of techniques, made bead jewellery, made slimes and went to the cinema, park and bowling.

'The thing I enjoyed most was making ornaments out of pinecones. Mine is blue, has a lot of glitter on it and has money stuck to it,' said nine-year-old Jaś.

On the last day of the summer play - Friday, there was a team competition. The children had to complete twelve competitions such as ping-pong bowling, stacking a house of cards and many others, during which they cheered each other on tremendously. At the end, they received commemorative T-shirts, diplomas and a sweet gift from the staff. The staff assures that they will be at their posts ready to organise the summer play again next year.
