Joint conferences, support in teaching and the development of cooperation as part of the Gdańsk City of Literature programme - these were the provisions of a letter of intent signed on January 3 by Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz and Rector of the UG prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski. The event was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, dr hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, prof. UG.
A new undergraduate course is being created at the university: the Art of Creative Writing.
- 'It is planned that participants of the City of Gdańsk programmes supporting literary activity will conduct classes with students,' - informs the Vice-Rector for Students and Educational Quality, dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG.
Gdańsk City of Literature website
UG and the City of Gdańsk have also declared their intention to develop cooperation within the framework of the Gdańsk City of Literature programme. The project was launched in May 2022. It aims to support the Gdańsk literary community. So far, the initiative has produced, among other things, a website dedicated to literary events, places and characters.
The organisers of the project have already started renovating the former Charity and Orphanage Complex building in Osiek, which will become the House of Literature.
Both institutions are also planning to organise a symposium, seminars and conferences.
- 'Young people, our students, are very creative and willing to wander off the beaten track. They also often need to express themselves, including in literary form. We hope, therefore, that these studies will allow, also thanks to the cooperation with the city and our artists, many talents to be discovered,' - says Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski.
In the meantime, we invite you to familiarise yourself with the literary works of University of Gdańsk students to date. An Almanax, a collection of short stories, poems and photographs of the UG academic community, is being produced as part of the UG Academic Club of Literature Theorists.
