150 students from 16 Polish universities gathered for the 7th Sopot Logistics Workshop

The 7th edition of the Sopot Logistics Workshop, held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk, attracted great interest. Participants in the two-day event took part not only in workshops led by business world representatives but also in a mini job fair. They visited the headquarters of several large, local companies. There was no shortage of time for integration - a social event was organised as part of the LWS, which was an excellent opportunity to have a great time and exchange views and experiences between students from different parts of Poland.

The 7th Sopot Logistics Workshops, organised by the University of Gdańsk's Logistics Scientific Club, were held under the honorary patronage of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, the Polish Association of Logistics and Purchasing Managers and the Mayors of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, as well as under the media patronage of the IntermodalNews.pl portal and Radio MORS. Over 150 students from 16 universities from all over Poland took part.

'We are happy to see such a large turnout. We want to thank all the participants for coming, especially the speakers and the honorary and media patrons. We hope that the event will inspire all students interested in logistics to explore their knowledge further and use it in their future professional work,' - says dr Leszek Reszka, supervisor of the UG Logistics Scientific Club.

Report from the first day of the SWL

During the inauguration ceremony, after the guests had been welcomed by dr Leszek Reszka - scientific supervisor of NKL UG and Jakub Krzyżaniak - President of NKL UG, dr Przemysław Borkowski, prof. UG - Vice-Dean for Science officially opened the conference on behalf of the Faculty Authorities. Andrzej Zawistowski - A Management Board of the Polish Association of Logistics and Purchasing Managers member, also spoke, who talked about the Top Young 100 programme.

On the first day, the workshops were conducted by representatives of the business world:

  • Andrzej Zawistowski (Polish Association of Logistics and Purchasing Managers): 'Trends and challenges in supply chains of the 21st century'.
  • Małgorzata Borkowska, Magdalena Jałoszyńska, Karolina Stanewicz-Partyga (Flex): 'Shopping fever'
  • Marta Jankowska, Julia Wesołowska, Bartosz Żebrowski (Federal-Mogul BIMET S.A.): 'The logistical customer service process at Federal-Mogul BIMET S.A. in Gdańsk'.
  • Michał Moteka (LPP Logistics Sp. z o.o.): 'Basics of design and optimisation based on two LPP Logistics Distribution Centres'.
  • Damian Lewandowski, Liudmila Lewandowska (LAGO Logistics Sp. z o.o.): 'Determination and optimisation of journeys in road transport'.
  • Julia Błaszczyk, Anna Janicka, Piotr Krzemiński, Maciej Rożentalski, Karina Ćwiklińska, Łukasz Miotk (Promeco Sp. z o.o.): 'Contemporary logistical challenges from the point of view of a manufacturing company'.
  • Tomasz Majewski, Mateusz Rudnik (Uni-logistics Sp. z o.o.): 'The importance of road and intermodal transport in the economy'.
  • A mini job fair was also organised adjacent to the conference hall. Students were able to talk to representatives of the companies, who were happy to share any information and answer participants' questions.

On the first day of the conference, a national competition for the best student paper was also held, with the theme: logistics in theory and practice. Thirteen papers were submitted to the competition. The competition was won by Ms Natalia Bryla and Mr Paweł Borowiec from Gdynia Maritime University.

Report from the SECOND DAY OF SWL

On the second day, study visits were organised to five companies:

Flex - Students had the pleasure of observing groundbreaking and innovative solutions in the warehouses and production halls of the Tczew branch of the Flex corporation. This is one of the best equipped of over 100 Flex corporation branches worldwide. The students also had meetings with specialists keen to share their knowledge of logistics and more.

GEODIS Road Network Sp. z o.o. - The visit gave the participants an insight into how a company that is a world leader in logistics operates. Its representatives provided the students with a hefty dose of knowledge about the importance of effective logistics and distribution management and the value of the right processes for effective operation in the logistics services market.

LPP Logistics Sp. z o.o. - During the visit to the LPP Logistics Distribution Centre in Pruszcz Gdański, the students had the opportunity to tour the entire facility and familiarise themselves with all the processes there - from receipt at the warehouse through order picking, sorting, and stock control to dispatching. The visit showed what the warehousing process looks like and demonstrated modern technologies and tools to ensure maximum efficiency in the distribution centre.

Promeco Sp. z o.o. - The participants visited a manufacturing company specialising in producing electromechanical systems and services for the marine, railway, energy and other industries. During the visit, the students were shown around the plant, where they saw how production, material procurement and distribution of finished products take place. In addition, the employees talked about the company's working culture, which impressed the visitors. It was fascinating to find out that Promeco is making many changes related to continuous development linked to the demand for future logisticians.

Uni-logistics Sp. z o.o. - participants visited the company's recently established warehouse in Gdańsk. During the visit, company representatives presented the daily challenges at their facility while also showing the warehouse's modern technical facilities. The practical demonstration of warehouse logistics processes allowed the participants to learn more about efficient warehouse management.
