On Monday, 18 March 2024, the University of Gdańsk will host two events with the Nobel Laureate in Literature: a ceremonial session of the UG Senate on the occasion of Olga Tokarczuk being awarded a doctor honoris causa title by our University and her meeting with the UG academic community.
The Senate of the University of Gdańsk, at the proposal of the Faculty of Languages Council, awarded the most outstanding contemporary Polish writer, Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk, an honorary doctorate for ‘her literary work and cultural and social activities’. The ceremony was scheduled for March 18 this year to mark the anniversary of the establishment of our University, which took place on March 20, 1970.
The ceremonial meeting of the Senate will take place in Artus Court in Gdańsk. Due to the limited number of seats in the historic hall, it will be attended by guests invited by the Rector, prof. Piotr Stepnowski, and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, dr hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, prof. UG. A laudation will be presented by prof. Małgorzata Książek-Czermińska, and the Nobel Prize winner herself will give a lecture.
PLEASE NOTE - the ceremony will be broadcast live (link will be launched on March 18, 2024, just before 10.00 a.m.).

The discussion will be chaired by prof. Stanisław Rosiek, a literary scholar and publisher of the Nobel Prize winner's new book.
