The 14th Brain Days are behind us! For 7 days, Tricity scientists explained, among other things, how the murderer's brain works, how our mind behaves when shopping, and why the brain hates dirty air. The various lectures, workshops, and stands attracted more than 2,000 participants!

‘The Brain Days in the Tricity show a great variety of topics and scientific fields where the brain is at the centre. I would mention the search for recipes for happiness and health as the common denominator of these meetings. During a large part of lectures and workshops, in a more or less direct way, scientists try to answer the question: how to make the basics of our mental functioning more comprehensible thanks to knowledge about the brain,’ says the organiser of the Tricity Brain Days, dr Wojciech Glac, prof. UG. ‘Such knowledge brings us closer to a healthier and happier everyday life. Of course, our classes were addressed not only to people searching for the meaning of life but also to all those for whom science is a source of the delight of discovery and experimentation.’

For a whole week, from March 11 to 17, the Faculty of Biology and the Hevelianum hosted 25 lectures, 32 workshops, and a field game. All the attractions brought in more than 2000 participants.

The event was organised by the Centre for the Popularisation of Science of the University of Gdańsk, the Faculty of Biology of the University of Gdańsk, and the Hevelianum; the speakers conducting popular science activities included researchers from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Gdańsk, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Gdańsk, the Medical University of Gdańsk and the Technical University of Gdańsk, as well as students representing scientific circles:

  • Student Scientific Circle Homunculus UG,
  • Students' Scientific Circle of Oceanographers UG,
  • MUG Students' Scientific Group of Psychology,
  • Inter-University Association of Neuroscience Study Circles Cerebrum FarU,
  • Scientific Circle of Clinical Sexology, SWPS University,

Workshops as part of the campaign were also prepared by science centres - Hevelianum and ‘Experyment’ Science Centre - and the UG Library. More than 150 people were involved in organising the event.

Brain Days in Tricity was realised within the framework of the ‘Brain Awareness Week Grants’ funded by the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies and the Dana Foundation and thanks to financial support from the state budget, awarded by the Minister of Education and Science within the Programme ‘Social Responsibility of Science II’.
