Lilly May Niezabitowska - a student of the University of Gdańsk, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics - has become the European Under-21 Champion in the Olympic ILCA 6 class. The sailing section athlete was in the lead throughout the regatta held in Pollensa, Mallorca, Spain, and eventually beat defending champion Emma Mattivi of Italy by a large margin.
Lilly May Niezabitowska gave a glowing account of her performance for the PYA:
'I'm incredibly happy, I managed to meet all the objectives I had for this regatta. I sailed evenly, finishing races mostly in the top 10, felt I was fast and understood what was happening on the water. All this, plus a relaxed approach (smiling for the camera at every buoy), allowed me to start the last race with a lead of as much as 31 points. Already after the first tack, I knew I had the gold! Now it's time to celebrate and rest for a while because at the end of the month the Princess Sophia Cup in Mallorca and in July the World Under-21 Championships,’ says Lilly May Niezabitowska.
‘Congratulations to our student, this is an amazing success. We are keeping our fingers crossed for further successes, also at the Polish Academic Sailing Championships - athlete Lilly May Niezabitowska will certainly be a big reinforcement of our university team,' added ASA UG President Piotr Walczak.
