Dr hab. Dorota Pyć, prof. UG, Head of the Department of Maritime Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, has been elected President of the Port of Gdańsk. She has been associated with the Port of Gdańsk since 2019 as a member of the Supervisory Board of ZMPG on behalf of the City of Gdańsk.
Resolutions on the election of members of the Management Board of the Port of Gdańsk as a result of the qualification procedure were adopted on March 26 by the Company's Supervisory Board. Krzysztof Kaczmarek, who was temporarily acting president, was appointed Vice-president for Infrastructure. Prof. UG Dorota Pyć took up her position with effect from March 27.
Prof. UG Dorota Pyć - a biographical sketch
Prof. UG Dorota Pyć is a graduate of law from the University of Gdańsk. She obtained the academic degrees of Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Laws (specialisation: public international law) at the Faculty of Law and Administration of UG.
She has been affiliated with her Alma Mater since 1995. - initially as a doctoral student in the Department of Maritime Law and then as an assistant professor in the Department of Public International Law. In 2013, she was awarded the rank of associate professor. Since 2014, she has headed the Department of Maritime Law.
But it is not only with the university that she has associated her professional path. She had the opportunity to use her knowledge of maritime law in the position of Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy and then at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, where she was responsible for maritime affairs. She left office after the change of government in 2015.
From 2008 to 2019, she was a member of the Codification Commission for Maritime Law. Since 2018, she has been an arbitrator of the International Court of Arbitration at the National Chamber of Maritime Economy in Gdynia. Since 2022, she has been the director of the Centre for the Research on Maritime Economy UG and the head of the postgraduate course 'Education for Sustainable Development: offshore wind energy'. She is active in the Committee for the Implementation of the Social Responsibility of Science Policy of the UG and in the Fahrenheit University Women's Club, which she co-founded.
The scientific output of the new President of the Port of Gdańsk includes scientific works in the field of maritime law, maritime law and law of protection of the marine environment and sustainable development. She is the author or co-author of more than 150 original scientific articles and chapters in books, 2 monographs, commentaries to laws and glosses, and editor of more than 20 publications.
