The university ski competition in giant slalom on the slopes of Kotelnica Białczańska on February 13 and 20, 2025, brought a lot of smiles, emotions and positive impressions. The event was held under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk as part of the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of the University of Gdańsk.
The employees and their families and children, who had a separate classification, were the first to take part in the sporting competition. The following week, the students joined the competition. In both competitions, snowboarders also took part alongside skiers.
'We are glad that the competition went smoothly and without injuries. For many participants, it was their first contact with this form of sports competition, and it was clear that everyone was very committed, regardless of age,' said mgr Tomasz Aftański, Director of the Centre for Physical Education and Sport, who also acted as a skiing instructor at the student camp. ‘There is a large group of participants who come back the following year. This not only gives us great satisfaction, but also confirms our belief that this is an initiative worth developing and cultivating.’
On the first day, the best result in the competition was achieved by Aleksandra Kosowska, who was competing in the girls' category, with a time of 28.35, slightly ahead of Agnieszka Pęksyk (28.93) - the winner in the women's category. On the same day, Antoni Siara was the best among the men, with a time of 32.37, ahead of... his father, Jarosław Siara (33.39).
It was definitely more difficult for the students to compete for medals and cups. The large turnout and high level of competition meant that Krzysztof Kammer, representing the ski and snowboard section of the ASA at the University of Gdańsk, had to mobilise himself strongly. However, his time of 25.73 says it all: absolute domination in the men's category. The female student winner Idalia Gorycka achieved the second-best time on the day (27.67).
‘The sports results are encouraging, but they are not the most important thing here. What counts is overcoming your own weaknesses and fighting not only against your rivals but, above all, against your own limitations. We are very happy with this year's edition, with more and more hearts open to this wonderful hobby, and we would like to invite all fans of winter sports to the next events organised by the University of Gdańsk,’ added Tomasz Aftański.
In total, 82 skiers and snowboarders took part in the two competitions organised as part of the 55th anniversary of the University of Gdańsk, as well as employees and students participating in the camps in Białka Tatrzańska. The complete results from 13.02.2025 and 20.02.2025 can be found below.
