
The Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar, has appointed dr hab. Sławomir Steinborn, prof. UG, Head of the Department of Criminal Procedure Law and Forensic Science at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdańsk, to serve as President of the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk.
The appointment document was signed by the Minister of Justice on February 28, 2025. Dr hab. Sławomir Steinborn, prof. UG will take up his post on March 21, 2025, and will hold it for a period of six years.
'I see my appointment as President of the Court of Appeal as an expression of trust in me and my abilities. I particularly appreciate the fact that my candidacy was widely supported by the judges of the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk. I am aware of the enormity of the challenges facing the judiciary in the coming years. It is necessary both to rebuild the authority of the judiciary and to streamline and modernise its functioning. These are the main tasks I set myself,' says dr hab. Sławomir Steinborn, prof. UG.
Dr hab. Sławomir Steinborn, prof. UG is the head of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Forensic Science at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk. Since 2016, he has been a judge at the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk. he has been a judge at the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk, in the 2023-2026 term he serves as the President of the Main Board of Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum, and in the 2024-2029 term he serves as a Member of the Scientific Committee of the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP-IAPL). On 4 April 2024, he was appointed to the Criminal Law Codification Commission (he was also a member of this Commission previously, from 2012 to 2016). He is the author and co-author of over 140 scientific studies in the field of criminal procedure, constitutional law and European criminal law, including articles published in recognised foreign journals and publications, monographs, commentaries and academic textbooks. He also serves as the Scientific Integrity Ombudsman at the University of Gdańsk.
