The JohnnyBros ASA University of Gdańsk volleyball team has had a great season! The team, which is made up of young female athletes who combine sport with studying, came second in the main round of the second league, won the Pomeranian Academic League championship and advanced to the final of the Polish Academic Championships, winning a silver medal in the semi-final round! JohnnyBros has been the title sponsor of our team for the second season.
In the league competitions, out of 18 matches played, the players of JohnnyBros ASA University of Gdańsk won 16 of them. The team was promoted to the semi-final tournament for the first league. In the tournament played in Nysa, the Gdańsk team placed 4th, ending the competition at this stage.
'This season, we were close to being promoted to the first league. In the regular season, our team only lost two games. Unfortunately, the rivals in the play-offs were too strong and we will have to postpone our dream of reaching the second league until next season,' says ASA UG President Piotr Walczak. 'We have to remember that our team is based on young players and that was the goal of this project. The girls combine sport with education. The cooperation with a strong sponsor has given us stability and the opportunity to play for the highest goals.'
The merits of the team are emphasised by Ireneusz Waleczek, coach of JohnnyBros ASA University of Gdańsk 'Two weeks ago, we ended the women's second league season, which I hope was fruitful for many, and for me as the helmsman of these fantastic girls, it was full of many experiences, positive experiences. Thanks to the support of our partners, including JohnnyBros, our organisational level allowed us to focus solely on volleyball, which is extremely important for every athlete and coaching staff. After promotion to the first league play-offs, we wanted more, but in Nysa we found out what we need to work on to be even better and increase our chances of achieving more in the future. I am proud of my team, which fought to the last round for promotion from the group. The girls withstood the pressure of the last match perfectly, and it was a tribute to their work throughout the season.'
Aleksandra Chyła, captain of JohnnyBros ASA University of Gdańsk, said: ‘It was an intense and emotional season. We finished the regular round in second place, which was a huge achievement and the realisation of the goal we set ourselves at the beginning of the season. It was a bumpy road. We fought until the end to qualify for the play-offs, which we achieved with a win in the last match of the regular season against Szamotuły. This win strengthened us as a team and made us believe that together we can achieve the highest goals. However, the play-offs in Nysa showed how difficult the road to the first league is. Even though we didn't manage to get promoted, every match - especially the most difficult ones - gave us invaluable experience and allowed us to look at our development from a broader perspective. I am extremely proud of the girls' attitude. We fought until the very end and despite many difficulties, we proved more than once that we are capable of a lot.'
JohnnyBros The University of Gdańsk has been cooperating for another year: 'The emotions associated with the performances of the volleyball players JohnnyBros ASA of the University of Gdańsk in the completed season will stay with us for a long time, summarises Julian Pawlukiewicz, founder and CEO of JohnnyBros. The progress made by the team led by coach Ireneusz Waleczek allows us to look to the future with optimism and confirms our belief that together we are creating something special. The determination and commitment of the players and the coaching staff have always been at the highest level, and they deserve our praise. We are proud of your attitude!'
