Baltic Sea Science Award 2021 - nominations

The call for applications for the 'Baltic Sea Science Award 2021' for outstanding contributions to cross-border research cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) area in the field of sustainable development is open.

Recruitment criteria for the award:

Candidates: doctoral, masters or undergraduate students from universities or research institutions based in any country in the Baltic Sea Region carrying out research projects that meet the following criteria:

  1. The project is cross-border and involves at least two countries in the Baltic Sea Region - either through the candidate's participation in an international team or through the development of a cross-border research question/problem.
  2. The project has the potential to have an impact on the sustainable development of the Baltic Sea Region. Priority will be given to research projects covering the three research topics that are current priorities for the Baltic Science Network (BSN), namely: Photon & Neutron Science, Life Science and Welfare State.
  3. The project contributes to research and innovation strategies at the macro-regional or European level in the Baltic Sea Region (e.g. HORIZON, EUSBSR, CBSS Science Research Innovation Agenda (SRIA), Baltic 2030).

Deadline for submissions: May 20, 2021

Please submit your nominees for the award by providing the following details:

  1. First name, surname
  2. Faculty / year / type of studies
  3. Title of the research project and short description
  4. Email/phone number of the nominee

by May 20, 2021, till 3 p.m. to marta.dziedzic@ug.edu.pl

Next steps:

  1. UG submits 2 selected nominations to the competition organiser by May 22, 2021.
  2. Those nominated by UG will be informed by 22.05.2021 and asked to submit the relevant application by 31.05.2021 to the Competition Organiser
  3. Winners will be selected until June 10, 2021, and will be invited to present their projects at the CBSS Science Day on June 16, 2021.

Selection and award

The Selection Committee consists of one CBSS representative and three BSN representatives. Selection will be based on three specific criteria:

  1. How does your research impact transnational cooperation in BSR countries?
  2. What is the sustainable impact that your research projects will help to achieve?
  3. To what extent does your research contribute to research and innovation strategies at the macro-regional and/or European level?

Each of the three selected winners will receive EUR 1,000 and will be invited to participate and present their projects at the CBSS Science Day on June 16, 2021.
