New English-language specialisations at the Faculty of Management

The Faculty of Management at the University of Gdańsk has enriched its teaching offer with new specialities taught in English. These are Management at the Faculty of Management and Business Informatics, a speciality available at the Faculty of Computer Science and Econometrics.

The Faculty of Management at the University of Gdańsk offers 6 fields of study: Computer Science and Econometrics, Finance and Accounting, Management and Management of Health Care Institutions, Taxes and Tax Consultancy, Insurance - interdisciplinary studies (the last two together with the Faculty of Law and Administration). In the offer of WZR, there are also studies and specialisations conducted in English - directed both to Polish students and students from other countries.

New for the academic year 2021/2022 among English-language specialisations are: Management - specialisation in Management, second-cycle studies and Business Informatics - a specialisation in Computer Science and Econometrics, second-cycle studies.

They allow you to make international friends. Students and graduates of English-language studies stand out in the labour market. It is easier for them to find a job because the language barrier is much lower,' - says dr hab. Angelika Kędzierska-Szczepaniak, prof. UG, Vice Dean for Internationalisation and Development, Faculty of Management, University of Gdańsk. - 'In the offer for the next academic year, we have three English-language specialisations on master's studies and one on bachelor's studies - Financial Analyst. The curriculum for this specialisation was prepared based on the examination requirements of the CFA Society (Chartered Financial Analyst) for the first level of certification. CFA qualifications are the world's most recognized certificate of knowledge and skills in capital market analysis.'.

Detailed information about the new specialisations

Specialisation in Management (within the Management major)

The study program of the English-language specialisation 'Management' provides the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of business management and to develop the skills and competencies of master's graduates who want to develop and commercialise products and processes that are sustainable by design, protect the environment and ensure the use of existing resources. In addition to mainstream subjects such as corporate finance, strategic and innovation management, human capital management or digital marketing and business and sustainability, students also learn modern quantitative methods, business leadership and communication. There is an emphasis on ethical and legal issues, behavioural aspects and the ability to identify market trends. The programme is designed to train students to recognise the risks and opportunities associated with global operations. It is designed to be fully aligned with the needs of current audiences operating on global markets. The degree is open to both domestic and international students.

Graduates of this specialisation can find employment in the public, private and non-profit sectors, especially in modern organisations focusing on sustainability aspects. The programme is also addressed to people who want to run their own business or work on international projects.

Specialisation in Business Informatics (in Computer Science and Econometrics)

Business Informatics is a scientific specialisation highly valued in the academic world and business, that prepares graduates for modern IT professions. It combines knowledge of computer science and business, dealing with information systems, including mobile applications in organisations. Almost all modern organisations operate based on information technology, which creates a wide area of employment opportunities for graduates, especially in the Digital Economy era. In this context, a special place is occupied by ERP systems comprehensively supporting the management processes of organisations.

A characteristic feature of the Business Informatics specialisation is its operation within SUA, i.e. SAP University Alliances. This means access to SAP software and the use of didactic resources of this international consortium. Consequently, each of the four semesters of the specialisation programme includes the following subjects: ERP systems, ERP in financial accounting, controlling and asset management, Logistics, Production planning and others. The didactic method dominating the course of study is laboratory work in self-organizing teams implemented based on the Agile approach, especially Scrum. Students also acquire other soft skills useful in business communication. The programme will be delivered by national and international lecturers and IT practitioners. The third semester will include professional practice in IT companies, including branches of international IT corporations.

The main core of studies in the Business Informatics specialisation is supported by the acquisition of knowledge and skills in contemporary IT technologies and solutions, such as Information Systems Modelling, Business Process Architecture, Requirements Engineering, Human-Computer Interface Design, Business Intelligence Systems, Big Data Systems, Internet of Things, Smart Cities, Design Thinking, Cloud Computing, Innovative Business Models and elective lectures. The BI specialisation will also enable you to gain international IT certificates.

Graduates of the Business Informatics specialisation will be able to work as ERP systems development and implementation specialists, in particular SAP, IT systems analysts and designers, Big Data and Business Intelligence analysts, ERP systems architects, IT consultants, IT project managers, ERP systems administrators.

Specialisations in Financial Analyst and Finance and Accounting

English-language specialisations, already present in the offer of WZR UG, are also Financial Analyst - available in the field of Finance and Accounting, first cycle studies, and Finance and Accounting - specialisation conducted in the field of Finance and Accounting, second-cycle studies.

Financial Analyst prepares for the CFA exam. Chartered Financial Analyst is the world's most recognized certificate of knowledge and skills in market analysis The curriculum of the Financial Analyst specialization has been prepared based on the CFA Society examination requirements for the first level of certification (Level I Curriculum) and enriched with knowledge and skills concerning the conditions for the functioning of financial markets in Poland. Alumni will gain skills in the valuation of companies and financial assets, evaluation of investment efficiency, risk assessment related to investments and selection of appropriate risk management instruments, analysis and forecasting of the financial situation of companies, use of computer packages enabling the above-mentioned analyses, forecasts and simulations as well as communicating their results in English. Graduates of this specialisation will be able to work as e.g. money market analysts, currency market analysts, capital market analysts, financial asset management specialists, credit analysts, credit risk management specialists or financial (economic) consultants.

The 'Finance and Accounting' programme provides undergraduates with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of finance and develop their skills and competencies in the investment process. In addition to mainstream subjects such as portfolio construction, risk management and valuation of financial instruments, students also learn modern quantitative methods and become familiar with innovations in finance. The emphasis here is on ethics and professional standards, legal and corporate governance issues and behavioural aspects of financial markets. The programme covers a significant number of topics from levels 2 and 3 of the CFA Programme.

The curriculum is closely linked to the needs of business practice. Among the lecturers, students will find both academics and practitioners. Our partners from the business community contribute both to the content of the curriculum and to the teaching process itself.

Graduates of this specialisation can find employment in banks, listed companies, various investment funds, other financial institutions and organisations that supervise and monitor the market.
