The University of Gdańsk will host members of the Governing Board, the Executive Committee and the SEA-EU Technical Working Group - an alliance of six European and coastal universities from Gdansk, Cadiz, Brest, Kiel, Split and Malta. The participants of the meeting will summarize the work done so far in the project and will set the priorities and directions for the next phase of SEA-EU.
The meetings scheduled from 30 November to 2 December 2021 will be attended by a total of about 80 people working in the university international project. They will include the authorities, project coordinators and members of the SEA EU university working groups. Representatives of the Pomerania and Gdańsk voivodship and local government authorities will also meet with the guests. Apart from the project workshops and the main meeting, the programme includes a visit to Olivia Bussienes Centre where the CEO Maciej Grabski will welcome the guests from SEA EU, and to the European Solidarity Centre where the Director Basil Kerski will meet the guests. A tour of the exhibition is also planned here.
University of the Seas, SEA EU - is an alliance of six European and coastal universities from Gdańsk, Cadiz, Brest, Kiel, Split and Malta. It was created to implement the vision of an international, multi-ethnic, multilingual and interdisciplinary European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) with international scientific cooperation, innovation and knowledge transfer.
The University of Gdańsk is among the winners of the first edition of the European Universities competition financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Universities Commission. The partners are University of Cadiz (Spain), University of Western Brittany (France), Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel (Germany), University of Split (Croatia) and University of Malta in Valletta (Malta), covering almost all seas and oceans which form the northern, western and southern facets of the European continent: Baltic Sea, Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Adriatic Sea.
The main research area of SEA-EU members is the sustainable development of the maritime sector. Hence, research and economic activities, as well as cultural traditions related to the sea through collaborations with the business community, research agencies, authorities, foundations or educational institutions are a priority and an objective.
Let us recall that for the past three years universities from six countries have been working on a new model of education and academic exchange, which will increase the competitiveness of European higher education, ensure the mobility of students and staff, and at the same time improve the quality of education and scientific research.
The last Governing Board meetings were held in Malta in June 2021, at which time face-to-face meetings of the main Governing Board were scheduled, taking stock of the activities of the last three years of the project so far and proceeding to the second phase proposed by the European Commission, this time lasting six years.
