Dr hab. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak, prof. UG from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG and MUG has been elected President of the European Epidermal Barrier Research Network. She will hold the position together with dr Ryan O'Shaughnessy from Queen Mary University of London.

'Being elected as President by the members of the European Epidermal Barrier Research Network (E2BRN) is a great honour and an undoubted recognition of my scientific output and the work of my team. For years, I have been exploring the secrets of the epidermal barrier, which plays a key role in our health. We see disorders of its function not only in skin diseases but also in other conditions, including allergies (for example asthma and food allergy). This demonstrates the great importance of the epidermis for the overall well-being and health of the body,' says prof. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak.

The E2BRN is a prestigious research network that relies on extensive scientific collaboration and provides great support to its members. It provides a friendly forum for scientists working in this field to exchange experience and knowledge. ‘Given my interdisciplinary interests linking the epidermis and immunology, in my activities, I will aim to promote a broad and multifaceted view of the structural and functional aspects of the skin barrier,' admits prof. Gutowska-Owsiak. ‘My first task as President will be to organise a network conference in Lisbon this September. However, we already have further ideas that will pave the way for the creation of European research consortia,' adds the scientist.

Professor Gutowska-Owsiak will undertake this role together with dr Ryan O'Shaughnessy from Queen Mary University of London.
