The exhibition ‘Whispers of My Home’ presents a series of graphics and photographs by Zuzanna Kocińska, which is an intimate story about identity composed of places, memories and experiences. In her graphics and photographs, the artist explores the concept of home, both in its physical and emotional aspects. It is a meeting of two spaces: her family home in Gdańsk and her home in Toruń, where the artist has found her own rhythm of life and work.

The idea behind the exhibition is accompanied by the concept of unreliable narration, presented by Wayne C. Booth, an American literary scholar, in his 1961 book The Rhetoric of Fiction. This concept presents a narrator whose assessment of reality may raise doubts in the audience. The reality presented by this narrator does not necessarily coincide with the Truth. In her works, Zuzanna Kocińska explores the essence of being ‘in between’ – between experience and memory – the real one and the one processed through the filter of subjectivity. This state of suspension, creating tension, inspires and allows the experience to be transformed into a work of art.

‘Whispers of My Home’ is a return for the artist to remembered emotions and spaces which, worn down by the passage of time, reveal new meanings and interpretations.
