The university film music concert at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic

‘Gladiator’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘The Bodyguard’, ‘Dirty Dancing’ - on 4 March, the Polish Baltic Philharmonic was filled with the sounds of the most famous film music themes. During the concert, the audience had the opportunity to hear songs that have accompanied the greatest cinema and television productions for years.

Koncert muzyki filmowej UG 4 marca 2026

Over 110 artists associated with the University of Gdańsk performed on stage. Three ensembles operating at the UG Academic Cultural Centre “Alternator” took part in the joint project: the University of Gdańsk Academic Choir, the Gdańsk Academic Orchestra and the University of Gdańsk Vocal Studio. The concert programme included both elaborate symphonic arrangements and vocal pieces performed by soloists accompanied by an orchestra, choir and rhythm section.

The concert opened with dynamic instrumental themes, introducing the audience to the world of film adventure. The rest of the evening featured both iconic film songs and recognisable symphonic motifs - from atmospheric, lyrical compositions to energetic pieces known from action films and contemporary TV series. The programme included compositions from the films ‘Gladiator’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘The Bodyguard’ and Dirty Dancing, as well as other pieces that have become part of the history of film music and pop culture.

The diversity of the repertoire, the combination of the sound of a symphony orchestra with a choir, vocal ensemble and soloists, and the visual setting gave the concert a coherent, dramatically thought-out form. The audience reacted with great enthusiasm, and the finale of the evening ended with a standing ovation.

This is yet another event that has shown that the ensembles operating at the Academic Culture Centre of the University of Gdańsk create artistic projects of the highest standard. Their activities and projects not only develop the talents of the academic community, but also attract a wide audience and build the cultural presence of the university in the city.
