Summer School: Physics of Quantum Chips 2026 - registration is now open!

Are you curious about how quantum chips work? How do you create a quantum dot containing single electrons? The University of Gdańsk and Lund University cordially invite you to the second edition of the Summer School: Physics of Quantum Chips (Physics of Quantum Chips, PQC), which will take place in Gdańsk during the first week of July 2026. A basic understanding of quantum mechanics is required. Registration is open until 19 April! Participation in the course is free of charge.

Quantum chips consist of quantum elements such as Josephson junctions, quantum dots containing single electrons, and resonators operating in the few-photon regime. If you want to learn their secrets, the Summer School will be a great opportunity to do so!

Topics

Topics will include:

  • description of superconducting qubits and circuits
  • acoustic qubits
  • sub-Kelvin thermometry – precise and fast measurements of the temperature of quantum devices
  • microscopic picture of Josephson junctions (Andreev bound states)
  • quantum hybrid devices – Josephson junctions with quantum dots
  • how experimentalists access and control qubits
  • Quantum Hall effect

Within the Quantum Hall effect topic, the KWANT software will be presented for simulations of quantum many-body systems.

Who might find it interesting?

This school is intended for participants with a basic understanding of quantum mechanics and quantum solid-state physics. We welcome individuals at all stages of their scientific careers - from Master’s students and PhD candidates to postdoctoral researchers and established scientists.

In particular, the school may be interesting for:

  • Researchers with a background in theoretical quantum information or quantum thermodynamics who wish to explore how these ideas are physically implemented on solid-state platforms.
  • Researchers in materials science who are curious about quantum devices fabricated from these materials and how they operate.
  • Researchers in electronics interested in pushing the boundaries of their field into the quantum realm.
The costs
  • Conference fee for participant (including lunches): 0 EUR (The registration fee is paid by NAWA)
  • Accommodation and travel costs are on the participant. The organizers has no possibility to consider any financial support for participants travel or accommodation.
Deadlines

Registration open until April 19, 2026
