How can you turn research findings into an engaging story? How can you capture your listeners' interest when talking about science? And how can you feel confident when performing on stage? We invite scientists keen to improve their skills in science communication to take part in the Science Show workshop series, which will culminate in a presentation at the Pomeranian Researchers’ Night.
The Science Show is a series of short, 10-minute presentations designed to popularise science. Each is prepared by a different researcher, so the topics may cover various disciplines and issues. However, they all share a single aim - to present science in an accessible, engaging and inspiring way.
After the event, the audience will have the opportunity to chat with the speaker during an informal Q&A session, ask questions and find out more.
From research to a good story - public speaking workshops
Science Show in Kiel
In the run-up to the Science Show, there will be a series of workshops dedicated to public speaking and the popularisation of science. During the sessions, participants will learn how to ‘draw’ the audience into the world of science, incorporate elements of storytelling into their presentations, and communicate in a simple and understandable way.
The workshops will culminate in a presentation at the Science Show as part of the Pomeranian Researchers’ Night, which will take place on 25 September 2026
The ability to present research findings in an engaging way is useful not only at events aimed at popularising science. Researchers regularly present the results of their work at conferences, during thesis defences, grant interviews and scholarship competitions. Crucial stages in a research career often depend on the quality of such presentations.
The Science Show workshops offer an opportunity to develop communication skills, gain practical stage experience and learn about tools that will be useful both in academic work and beyond.
Who can take part?
We invite PhD students and academic staff from the University of Gdańsk to participate in the workshops and give a presentation during the Pomeranian Researchers’ Night. Places are limited.
