The University of Gdańsk has been ranked in the 51-75 bracket for Oceanography in this year’s edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). This represents an improvement on its ranking of 76-100 in 2025 and 151-200 in 2024. The result confirms the gradual strengthening of the University of Gdańsk’s research position in this discipline.

GRAS is the subject-specific component of the ranking compiled by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. It covers around 2,000 universities from over 100 countries and assesses them across 57 academic disciplines.

The assessment takes into account, amongst other things, the quality and impact of research, academic output, team achievements and international collaboration. The University of Gdańsk achieved its highest scores in the ‘World-Class Faculty’ category - 44.5 points, compared with 39.2 points in the previous edition - and in the ‘Research Impact’ category - 28.7 points.

The list for Oceanography also included three partner universities of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU): the University of Western Brittany, the University of Kiel, and the University of Cádiz. The inclusion of these partners reflects the importance of marine sciences within our alliance’s research profile, although the ranking assesses each university separately.
