Dr hab. Monika Białek, from the Institute of Media, Journalism and Social Communication at the University of Gdańsk, has been honoured with the 2nd Zygmunt Gloger Award and Medal for her research into and promotion of knowledge about Polish radio reportage.

‘Polish radio is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and radio reportage has been part of it from the very beginning. Our radio reporters have won the Prix Italia - the ‘Radio Oscars’ - no fewer than 10 times. We have a lot to be proud of, yet few people are aware of this. I am dedicated to raising awareness of this, and now my work has been recognised and appreciated,’ says Monika Białek.

The aim of this nationwide competition is to recognise outstanding achievements in: cultural studies, anthropology, folklore studies, local cultures, linguistics, archaeology, media studies, pedagogy, museology, the history of literature, memoir writing, and research into the creative output of Zygmunt Gloger. The competition is organised by: the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Centre for Culture, the ‘Stopka’ Social Association for Press Studies, and the Marshal’s Office of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.

The First Prize in this year’s 37th edition of the competition was awarded to the distinguished linguist, prof. dr hab. Jerzy Bralczyk. Among those honoured in recent years were, amongst others, the following professors: Julian Gembalski, Jan Miodek, Piotr Kowalski, Henryk Samsonowicz, Andrzej Strumiłło and Janusz Tazbir.

The awards ceremony took place at the Culture Hall in Łomża on 25 September.
