12th BECKETT SEMINAR - May 12 and 13, 2021, at 09:00 pm

The Beckett Seminars of the University of Gdansk have been organised annually since 2010 by the Beckett Research Group in Gdansk, led by prof. UG Tomasz Wiśniewski. The seminars are attended by researchers and artists from all over the world and have resulted in numerous publications, documentary films, workshops/laboratories, and theatre performances.

Invited guests include: Marcello Magni (Complicite), Douglas Rintoul (Transport Theatre), Jon McKenna (UK), Antoni Libera (Poland), Jarosław Fret (Teatr ZAR), Enoch Brater (USA), H. This year's Beckett Seminar, as part of the Between Theatre and Literature Festival. Pomiędzy was organised by the University of Gdansk in cooperation with Florida State University in the USA, the Federal University of Goiás in Brazil and the Beckett Research Centre of Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.

This year, the themes of perpetual waiting, overwhelming frustration, uncertain future and enforced isolation are extremely topical and expressive. - 'We are perfectly aware that artistic transformations of typically Beckettian issues are no longer a matter of purely academic speculation, but have become part of the common experience on a global scale,' - the organisers emphasise. - 'We are looking at how Beckett's artistic achievements trigger versatile creativity in the virtual world (in Wuhan, Moscow, Warsaw, Dublin, Tallahassee, Worcester, Boston, etc.), and at the same time, we are taking the opportunity to recall some of the activities of the Beckett Research Group in Gdańsk, such as the laboratory film by SE Gontarski 'Beckett by the Baltic,' - they add. Therefore, this year's seminar is an opportunity to present short forms inspired by the Ohio Impromptu, a miniature that Samuel Beckett wrote forty years ago at the request of Stanley Gontarski, honorary patron of the Beckett Research Group in Gdansk (BRGiG).
