Sport and physical culture within SEA-EU

On the initiative of the University of Cadiz, for the first time in history, a meeting was held of persons responsible for sports and broadly defined physical culture within the European Universities of the Sea - SEA-EU. The University of Gdańsk was represented by mgr Tomasz Aftański - Deputy Director for Sport of the Centre for Physical Education and Sport.

The event took place at the end of June in an online format.

- 'It is a very good opportunity to meet your counterparts from friendly universities. Even though it was only the first meeting, we managed to raise a few extremely important issues, while the most important thing was to adapt the message to the local specifics and conditions you have,' - notes Tomasz Aftański. - 'Apart from the classic presentation of the university and our sports activities, other participants did not fail to notice UG's excellent position in the classification of the Academic Championships of Poland or our activities aimed not only at didactics but also at activating various student groups,' - added our representative.

- 'We can certainly learn a lot from each other, and such meetings add colour to everyday work. Observing remotely the conditions that other universities associated with the SEA-EU Universities have, we see a real need for mobilisation in this aspect. We certainly have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to human potential - with the involvement of students and employees we certainly impress from afar,' - adds Aftański.

The next meeting is planned for September. - 'We want to maintain the rhythm as a team. Everyone has been given homework and I hope that soon joint projects with our European partners will come into effect,' - concludes Tomasz Aftański.
