Recruitment at the University of Gdańsk

Computer Science, Criminology, English Philology and Psychology are the most popular majors chosen by candidates for the University of Gdańsk. The University has planned to admit nearly 12 thousand people this year. This year's novelties include Interdisciplinary Individual Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and in English - Production of Audiovisual Forms and Quantum Information Technology and Cultural Communication.

- 'Computer Science - with the number of nearly 16 candidates per place - is an absolute "hit" and an undoubted surprise in the current recruitment process. A great interest of candidates caused that the major offered by the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology joined the "top" of the most popular majors at UG,' - informs Beata Królczyk, head of the Recruitment Office at UG.

She stresses, however, that we will have to wait a bit longer for the final result of the recruitment process. - 'To meet the expectations of this year's high school graduates - as every year - the recruitment schedule was diversified, thanks to which the enrolment process for some of the majors lasted until July 12, while others are still open for this year's candidates for full-time studies of the first degree,' - she adds.

The following majors are still waiting for the announcement of the candidates' lists: Biotechnology - July 19, Ethnology - July 21, Pedagogy - July 21, German Studies - July 22, Religion Studies - July 22, Kashubian Ethnophilology - July 27, Russian Studies - July 27, Balkan Studies - July 27, Eastern Studies - July 27, Cultural Communication - September 13.

The University has planned to accept nearly 12 thousand students, including 8,829 full-time students and 2,942 part-time students.

The most popular faculties at UG in the recruitment process for the academic year 2021/2022 - full-time studies of the first degree (bachelor's degree) and long-cycle studies are Computer Science (general academic profile - 15.44 candidates per place, Criminology - 14.20 candidates per place, English Philology - 12.44 candidates per place, Psychology - 11.02 candidates per place, Scandinavian Studies - 8.97 candidates per place. Other majors: Management of artistic institutions managerial - 8.44, Production of audiovisual forms - 8.20, Sinology - 7.69, Knowledge of film and audiovisual culture, Journalism and social communication - 7.15, Genetics and experimental biology - 6.85, National security - 6.53, American studies - 6.40, Law - 6.36, Finance and accounting - 5.45 candidates per place.

This year the University of Gdańsk offered several novelties in recruitment, among others: Interdisciplinary Individual Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (MISHiS) - full-time first degree studies, Production of audiovisual forms - part-time first-degree studies, Quantum Information Technology - full-time second degree studies conducted in English and Cultural Communication - full-time second degree studies conducted in English. The offer of studies in English was also extended by specialisations at the Faculty of Management: Business Informatics in the field of Computer Science and Econometrics - full-time studies conducted in English as a second language, and Management - full-time studies conducted in English as a second language.

However, we will have to wait a bit longer for the summary of the UG recruitment process. According to Beata Królczyk, the head of the UG Recruitment Office, admission to full-time first degree studies (in selected fields) is still conducted by the Faculties: Philology, History and Social Sciences. Some of the faculties are already considering additional recruitment. Recruitment is also underway for full-time second-cycle studies and part-time studies. Currently (as of July 15), you can still apply for 9 full-time first degree courses. Recruitment for second-cycle studies and part-time studies takes place until the end of September, but different application deadlines apply for different courses. - 'It is important for the candidates to check the dates and be aware that once the registration deadline is passed, it will not be possible to apply for a particular major,' - stresses Beata Królczyk, head of the University Recruitment Office.
