Free workshops for students on soft skills

Students of the University of Gdańsk can take advantage of a training course entitled 'Career Management'. The workshop will cover topics such as personal branding and networking, strengths and weaknesses of the personality, assertive behaviour and interpersonal communication techniques. During the workshop, issues such as personal branding and networking, strengths and weaknesses of personality, assertive behaviour, interpersonal communication techniques and ways to cope with stress will be discussed.

Soft skills workshops are an excellent way to develop personal skills and social competencies.

- 'The pieces of training are based on practical exercises in communication, self-presentation, negotiations or stress management. These classes do not require any specialist knowledge, but they are useful in almost every industry and at every position,' - says Krzysztof Michalski from the Career Service of the University of Gdańsk, who will conduct the workshop. - 'Students participating in the workshop will also be able to take advantage, as part of the ProUG project, of career counselling consultations as well as coaching sessions conducted by qualified specialists from the UG Career Office.'.

The training consists of four panels. During the first one, participants will learn marketing strategies for investing in reputation building and increasing their value on the labour market. Next, they will acquire the ability to highlight their personality strengths in order to better present themselves as a partner to others, whether in private situations or in professional contacts. They also learn how to recognise, acknowledge and develop their strengths. In relation to weaknesses, they will acquire knowledge on how to minimise negative impressions and emphasise positive sides. In the following part of the workshop, assertive behaviour will be discussed, which means exercising personal rights without violating the rights of others. Techniques and elements of assertive refusal will also be distinguished. During the workshop, the issue of coping with stress will also be discussed - the participants will learn how to recognise stress from different angles. They will learn signs of stress and techniques to reduce it. Groups will do a series of exercises to practise techniques and methods (short and long term) of coping with stressful situations. They will also learn to distinguish between stress in the spheres of physiology, thinking, emotions, behaviour or life philosophy, and the types of stressors that can affect them. In the last part of the workshop, students will learn interpersonal communication techniques, how to send a message and how to receive it. They will learn the differences between active and passive listening and discuss communication barriers. There will be exercises on non-verbal and verbal communication. In addition, a test will be conducted to determine the roles that each participant has in the group.

Each participant will receive a certificate of participation in the training.

- 'It often happens that after graduation we apply for our dream job, competing with more experienced candidates, who have business experience and a certain range of soft skills. It is worth coming to our training and giving yourself a chance to gain this knowledge now so that you can use it in the future,' - adds Krzysztof Michalski.
