UG in QS EECA University Rankings 2022 - significant promotion of the University of Gdańsk in the ranking of the best universities of Eastern Europe and Central Asia

In the list of 450 best universities from Emerging Europe and Central Asia, published on 15 December 2021, the University of Gdansk took a high, 77th place in the region and improved its last year's ranking by seven positions.

Out of 27 Polish universities in this ranking, UG ranks 10th among all types of universities and 6th among classical universities. The progress made by our university is expressed not only in a seven place promotion in a year's timeframe. Within the last five years, UG improved its position in this ranking by as many as 20 positions. Additionally, it found itself in the group of 17% of the best universities in the region, while five years ago, it was in the range of32 5%.

The QS EECA ranking, one of the most recognized regional compilations of higher education entities in the world, has been constructed using ten indicators, of which the most significant weight is given to academic reputation studied through expert surveys (weight of 30%), and reputation expressed by employers (20%). The other parameters and their weights in the overall assessment are: Student/Staff Ratio - SSR (10%), number of scientific articles based on data from Elsevier's Scopus (10%), participation in international research networks (10%), visibility in the network (5%), number of staff with a doctoral degree (5%), the impact of research measured by the number of citations (5%), and level of internationalisation expressed as a number of staff and students from abroad (5%).

International Research Network is the indicator in which the University of Gdańsk fared best in this ranking - out of 100 possible points, we scored 90.5 - comments Professor Piotr Stepnowski, Rector of the University of Gdańsk. We are also pleased with a good result of the Web Impact assessment (73 points) - he adds.  I interpret the high scores in these indices as a result of intensive work and cooperation within SEA-EU and our efforts to improve the university's image, improve communication, website operation, but also tidying up the organisational structure, which is a prerequisite for good communication. The significant upward trend, which is visible when analyzing the results from the previous years, fills us with optimism and confirms the right direction of undertaken actions and implemented changes - concludes the Rector.
