Golden Crosses of the 80th Anniversary of the Home Army Creation for the University of Gdańsk

The Golden Crosses of the 80th Anniversary of the Home Army creation were presented to the Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski and the Vice-Rector dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG by the representatives of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers prof. Jerzy Grzywacz and mgr inż. Tomasz Kuplicki. It is a distinction awarded to institutions and individuals of particular merit for preserving the memory of wartime and postwar fate of Home Army soldiers.

The distinctions were awarded in recognition of the University of Gdańsk's consistent efforts to commemorate the activities of the Home Army. Representatives of the University of Gdańsk take part in events related to the Home Army, such as the National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers. Our University has also made rooms at the Faculty of Management available to the Union of Home Army Soldiers for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the underground armed forces.

'The remembrance of heroes and our history is one of the priorities in the education of future generations. The University strives to fulfil this mission properly. In the face of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, we know how important national identity is,' - stresses Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski.

The awards were presented by prof. Jerzy Grzywacz, a retired lecturer at the University of Gdańsk, who was a Home Army soldier. The meeting was attended by Krystian Rubajczyk, president of NZS UG.
