House of Danzig Research Society - the main seat of the Museum of Archaeology in Gdańsk
Prof. dr hab. Beata Możejko from the Institute of History and dr hab. Marcin Wąs, prof. UG from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology have become representatives of the University of Gdańsk in the Council of the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk. Until 2026, historians from the UG will take part in fulfilling the objectives set by the Museum's statutes.
The basic tasks of the Council of the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk, as laid down in the institution's statutes, include the collection and permanent protection of natural and cultural heritage of humanity and information about the value and content of the collections. Representatives of our University will also take part in evaluating the museum's activities and in giving their opinion on the institution's work plan for the following calendar year.
In addition to prof. Beata Możejko and prof. Marcin Wąs, the Council of the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk includes, among others, the Marshall of the Pomorskie Voivodship, Mieczysław Struk, prof. dr hab. Jerzy Piekalski of Wrocław University and dr hab. Tadeusz Grabarczyk of Łódź University. On April 5th this year. The Board of the Pomorskie Voivodeship appointed 11 members to the Museum Council, while the Council itself will appoint the last - 12th member.
We wish the new Museum Council fruitful cooperation.
Currently, the Museum offers 7 exhibitions to its visitors. The permanent exhibitions 'The City Under the City', 'Medieval Hanseatic Street', 'Gdańsk in the Hanseatic World', 'Granary Island in Gdańsk', 'The Oldest History of Kępa Dominikanska', and the open-air museum 'Grodzisko in Sopot'. The temporary exhibition "Wine in ancient Sudan" will be open until June 12 this year.
