For the first time at the University of Gdańsk, a celebration in honor of University academics recently appointed professors took place. A new academic tradition has been initiated by University of Gdańsk Rector, Professor Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała.
More than 1700 academics (researchers, teachers, people combining both functions) are currently employed at the University of Gdańsk: 892 with ‘doktor’ (PhD) degree, 452 with ‘doktor habilitowany’ (PhD with ‘habilitation’) degree and 158 holding ‘profesor’ (Professor) degree (data as of May 2020). Recently, since October 2019 to June 2020, over 100 people have been appointed to the position of UG Associate Professor, in total 412 of the employed academics hold that position.
The nomination for UG Associate Professor position is a major event for the University. University of Gdańsk Rector, Professor Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała congratulated those present at the ceremony:

The official ceremony honoring new University of Gdańsk Associate Professors took place on 25 June 2020 in Theatre Hall at UG Faculty of Languages.
The University of Gdańsk 50th Anniversary movie, produced by UG Film and Documentary Production Centre, was screened during the ceremony. Piano concert by Michał Ciesielski concluded the event. He performed three compositions from his ‘Share Location’ album, composed for the great cities of Gdańsk– ‘Tricity Rush', Lviv – ‘Ghosts of Lviv’ and Beijing – ‘Guo Mao Flutter’.
