Three University of Gdańsk Professors received the University of Gdańsk Medals at the University of Gdańsk Senate session on 28 November, 2019, namely:
- prof. dr hab. Stefan Chwin from the Faculty of Languages received the University of Gdańsk Gold Medal, Doctrinae Sapientiae Honestati, awarded for the extraordinary scientific achievements, wisdom and nobility.
- prof. dr hab. Anna Szaniawska from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography was also awarded the University of Gdańsk Gold Medal, Bene Merito Et Merenti, for her outstanding scientific achievements along with with long-lasting dedication to her pedagogical, administrative and scientific work.
- dr hab. Regina Wyżkiewicz-Maksimow, prof. UG, from the Slavic Languages Department at the University of Gdańsk Faculty of Languages received the University of Gdańsk Silver Medal, Doctrinae Sapientiae Honestati, awarded for the extraordinary scientific achievements, wisdom and nobility.
The Gold Medal application form of Professor Chwin reads: “ The humanistic thought of Professor Chwin is significant, well received, acknowledged and bears a great significance to the current Polish culture. His works also vastly influence literary studies and its recognition as a scientific field. Professor Chwin as a literature author holds a prominent place in the pantheon of Polish literature.”
Another Gold Medal recipient, prof. dr hab. Anna Szaniawska form the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, researches environmental factors affecting basic biological processes of marine invertebrates. Her research along with biology, ecology and fishery knowledge promotion deserve the highest praise.
The University of Gdańsk Silver Medal was awarded to Professor Regina Wyżkiewicz-Maksimow, a distinguished Slavist and researcher. Her most notable work, among many others, concerns linguistic representation of human character and identity embodied in Polish, Serbian and Croatian proverbs.
