The Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda, prof. Anastase Shyaka, met on December 12, 2022, with the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, and the Vice-Rector for student affairs and quality of education, dr hab. Arnold Kłonczyński, prof. UG. During the meeting, the possibilities for closer scientific cooperation between UG and Rwandan universities were discussed and an offer of education in English was presented, which might be of interest to university candidates from that country.
The meeting was also attended by the director of the Institute of Political Science, dr hab. Arkadiusz Modrzejewski, prof. UG, who organised a meeting between prof. Anastase Shyaka and students at the Faculty of Social Sciences and a lecture on armed conflicts in Equatorial Africa.
- 'Rwanda is becoming a strategic direction for the flow of students to Europe. The University of Gdańsk is a strategic partner for the government of this country because of its faculties: oceanography, aquaculture, digital chemistry and quantum physics. In addition, classes in these majors are taught in English. We, therefore, hope that the number of foreign students at the UG will increase,' - said Rector prof. Piotr Stepnowski.
It is worth noting that prof. Anastase Shyaka is a graduate of Gdańsk political science, where he wrote his doctoral thesis under the supervision of prof. Marek J. Malinowski, which he defended in 2001, obtaining his doctoral degree.
