AMP – UG chess team with gold and silver medals

The gold and bronze medals were brough home from the Academic Championship Poland (AMP) by the AZS University of Gdańsk chess team. The event took place in Szczyrk this year. The UG team stood on the podium of the AMP again, now for the 2020/2021 edition.

Checkmate and… a medal. The last tournament within the Academic Championship Poland for the 2019/2020 academic year turned out pretty successful for the AZS University of Gdańsk chess team. Our team had the most members taking place in the tournament and finished 3rd in general classification and 1st among universities.

Julia Antolak, our player, won bronze medal in the university classification and ended 4th in general classification of the individual tournament!

There were other team successes, like 3rd place for Aleksander Kumala on the chessboard no 1, 1st place for Michał Łada on the chessboard no 4 and second place for Julia Antolak on the chessboard no 6.

- The huge success at the Chess Academic Championship is the result of a systematic work and the experience our students have gained as a team at Academic Championships Poland so far, each year improving their team results. New team members greatly contributed to the final outcome, hopefully there are multiple AMPs in front of them, representing AZS University of Gdańsk – summarized Jarosław Skibicki, coach of AZS UG chess team.
