Ricard Ravell Rodríguez
Ricard Ravell Rodríguez is the first person at UG to be awarded a doctorate in doctoral school mode. For his dissertation 'Different levels of approximation in quantum open systems and their applications', on July 6, the Physical Sciences Discipline Council UG awarded the young researcher the degree of Doctor of Science.
Doctoral schools in Poland have been in operation since the 2019/20 academic year and have replaced the previous doctoral studies (third-degree studies). Unlike the previous mode of education, doctoral schools are run not by one authorised unit, but by the entire university.
The dissertation, written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Michał Horodecki from the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies (ICTQT) aims, among other things, to identify new possibilities for dealing with the dynamics of open quantum systems.
'In summary, the doctoral thesis entitled 'Different levels of approximations in Open Quantum Systems and their applications' is well written and contains new results that extend our knowledge of the physics of open quantum systems,' wrote prof. Jerzy Dajka of the University of Silesia in his review of the doctoral thesis. 'These results can serve as a basis not only for theoretical research but also for a better understanding of the results of advanced experiments performed at the micro-, nano- and mesoscale.
