More than 600 competitors from 32 countries will participate in 43 competitions during EuroSkills – an international industry skills competition organised by WorldSkills Europe and held for the first time in Poland. The event will bring together hundreds of young professionals from countries across Europe to compete for the chance to become the best in their chosen skills.
For the first time, Poland, specifically Gdańsk, is hosting EuroSkills - Europe’s largest vocational training and skills development event for young people. It will bring together hundreds of young, qualified professionals to compete against each other in various fields. Florists, chefs, car mechanics, welders or IT specialists will be among them.
The preliminaries for the finals took place in November 2022, during the SkillsPoland 2022 competition; the University of Gdańsk had an active part in organising them as a member of the WorldSkills coalition.
‘There is a great professional championship ahead – of new competencies and professions of the future in Gdańsk. The event is not only an opportunity for students of vocational or technical schools, but also for university students,’ says Vice-Rector for International Cooperation UG dr hab. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, prof. UG. ‘Visitors will be able to watch the competitors in action and try out skills related to the profession during numerous ‘Try-a-Skill’ demonstrations.’
Anyone who wants to attend the event can register as a spectator and support the competitors. You may register through the EuroSkills website. There will be ‘Try-a-skill’ zones, panel discussions, school fairs, concerts, and other attractions for spectators.
EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023 will be held from September 5 to September 9 this year at the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk stadium, the Amber Expo congress and exhibition halls and their adjacent areas.
The event, organised in cooperation with the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, WorldSkills Poland, WorldSkills Europe, the City of Gdańsk and AmberExpo Gdańsk, will begin with a spectacular opening ceremony at the stadium, during which there will be a parade of national teams. The medal ceremony is scheduled for September 9.
