BS

Prof. dr hab. Grzegorz Węgrzyn and dr hab. Marc-André Selosse have been ranked among the most prominent scientists in Poland in their respective fields according to the Research.com portal. This year's Best Scientists in the World list included five researchers from UG, among them (in addition to those mentioned above) Rector UG prof. dr hab. Piotr Stepnowski, prof. dr hab. Adam Liwo and prof. dr hab. Piotr Skurski.

According to the number of citations and publications by researchers included in the ranking, the University of Gdańsk is ranked 7th in Poland. At the same time, in fields such as molecular biology and chemistry, our university was ranked 1st and 4th in the country and 305th and 667th worldwide, respectively.

Prof. Grzegorz Węgrzyn, whose Hirsch index is 54, is the best-ranked Polish molecular biologist. According to research.com, the highest Hirsch index (64) among leading UG scientists is held by Professor Piotr Stepnowski. The UG's Rector has published 326 scientific papers, which have been cited 12,756 times.

The list also includes employees of the Department of Theoretical Chemistry: prof. Piotr Skurski (head of the department) and prof. Adam Liwo. Dr Marc-André Selosse from the Department of Biology UG was recognised in two fields: Ecology and Evolution and Plant Science and Agronomy. In both disciplines, the French researcher is ranked 3rd in Poland.

The Research.com portal prepares its ranking based on the Hirsch index, which indicates the number of publications with a certain number of citations. For example, a Hirsch index of 3 means that three works by a given researcher have been cited three or more times. A detailed summary of the UG researchers in the ranking can be found here.
