Tomorrow, October 31, 2023, we invite you to participate in a scientific cafe on climate change, environmental degradation, species and habitat extinction, and the necessary actions to save the Earth. The meeting will be broadcast on YouTube on the University of Gdańsk channel.
People have very different ideas about the end of the world. Their associations often paint the images of a sudden cosmic catastrophe, the destruction of humanity by artificial intelligence, or other spectacular events, which are great scenarios for films to be shown on the big screen. However, the probabilities of their occurrence are difficult to estimate. Meanwhile, on Earth, phenomena are occurring before our eyes that should turn our attention in a completely different direction. Instead of looking for a threat in space or integrated circuits, according to researchers, we should become aware of the threats to our existence that we bring upon ourselves.
That is why, at this special time of reflection on the passing of time, we wish to address the subject of climate change and the environment and answer the fundamental question: are we facing the end of the world?
We would like to invite you to take part in a scientific cafe on climate change, environmental degradation, the extinction of species and habitats, and the measures that need to be taken to save the Earth, where experts representing three scientific disciplines - biology, climatology and chemistry (environmental protection) - will share their knowledge: dr Piotr Rutkowski, prof. UG, dr Mirosława Malinowska, and dr Aleksandra Bielicka-Giełdoń.
The talk with audience participation will take place in the lobby of the Biology Department on October 31 at 3:30 p.m. It will be broadcast live via YouTube on the University of Gdańsk channel.
